At Spiegel, I am currently involved in research projects that examine audience engagement with media using behavioral data and quantitative analysis, including Medill's Local News Initiative. More broadly, my research explores behavioral and cognitive facets of engagement in three broad themes: (1) What enables engagement? (2) How and why do people engage with media? and (3) The ramifications of media engagement.

My work has been recognized with awards at major communication conferences including the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC).

My research has been published in peer-reviewed journals including New Media & Society, Information, Communication & Society, Computers in Human Behavior, Telematics and Informatics, and International Journal of Communication.
